"Improving the quality of your life is our life!"

Introducing Poway Chiropractor Dr. Elena Ruiz

Ever since I was in middle school I was drawn to the health care profession.  I remember coming home from school and watching television shows like “Medical Center” and “Emergency.”  As it came time to choose a career I was attracted to chiropractic because, at the time, natural health care methods were just beginning to gain a greater appreciation in society.

I could see a growing curiosity and interest in alternative health care and, while investigating my career options, I came across something written by Thomas Edison ~ “The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”  That pretty much summed up chiropractic. Mr. Edison may have been ahead of his time when he wrote this, but now as more and more people are looking for different, more natural approaches to health care I see that there was great wisdom in his words.  It was then that I decided on chiropractic for my life’s work.

After completing four years of undergraduate courses at San Diego State University I was accepted into the chiropractic program at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in Whittier, CA.  My courses at LACC included biochemistry, a strong emphasis on anatomy and physiology, x-ray, differential diagnosis, spinal manipulation techniques, and hands on patient care in the LACC campus clinic as an intern.  After graduating in 1986 I returned to the San Diego area where I established my practice.

Our patients are the focus of our professional services, where our quality is reflected in the ethical, knowledgeable, and professional approach we take with every patient we serve.  We are located in Poway, CA, a community in the north inland area of San Diego.  Our clinic is located within the Gateway Medical Center, an exceptionally well-kept professional medical building with plenty of parking for our patients.  When it comes to gentle chiropractic care, we’re real softies.  Chiropractic is not painful, but a pinched nerve is!

As chiropractic is the leading form of alternative care, our patients are realizing that now there is a better, safer, way. We commonly care for acute and chronic neck and back pain, sports, work, and auto-related injuries, disc, muscle, and nerve injuries, headaches and numbness and tingling in the arms/legs.  Of course, children are always welcome in our practice.  It’s never too early to begin a chiropractic care program.  Early detection of spinal problems may help your child have a healthy spine in his or her adult years.  Our goals for you are pain relief, control and management of chronic conditions, and improved overall health.  We are on the leading edge to bring you the highest quality in gentle effective state-of-the-art care.

We’re fully equipped to help our patients get well.  You’ll find a wide range of equipment and techniques in order to assist in the healing process using gentle spinal manipulation techniques supported by physiotherapy in the form of moist heat, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and traction.  We also have highly skilled licensed massage therapists in the office to provide therapeutic massage when necessary.  We recommend and implement treatment programs to my patients that will improve and enhance their present quality of life.  You don’t have to live in pain!

My husband, Gurney, and I live in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area of San Diego.  I like to spend quiet time reading books ranging from novels of fiction to journals of health, fitness, and nutrition.  I am also active in my church and in a weekly women’s bible study.

I keep healthy and fit by spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and swimming.  I know the importance of a healthy, well-balanced diet, eating organic foods whenever possible, supporting my diet with various vitamins and nutritional supplements.  I keep up to date on the latest studies on health, diet, and exercise and love to share that knowledge with our patients.

Enough about me!  Thanks for visiting our site.  I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of  service to you.  Give our office a call, or email me using the link below and let’s arrange a time to explore your options.
